What are Ozempic and Wegovy?
Used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes and weight management, Ozempic and Wegovy are the brand names for the prescription medication known as Semaglutide which is manufactured by Novo Nordisk. According to The FDA, semaglutide works by mimicking the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) hormone which tells the body to produce more insulin leading to a reduction in blood sugar and in high enough quantities, this hormone can also reduce appetite while inciting feelings of fullness. These drugs have been linked to instances of severe gastrointestinal injury as well as other health issues resulting in lawsuits being filed against Novo Nordisk.
