Arnold Palmer

An age-old indicator of summertime.

Ingredients:

This recipe makes 1 or 8 8 oz. servings

For one:

  • 1/2 cup lemonade
  • 1/2 cup iced tea
  • 1/2 cup ice

For a few:

  • 4 cups lemonade
  • 4 cups iced tea
  • 4 cups ice

Utensils:

  • 1 or 8 tall 8 oz. glasses
  • 1 pitcher (if making for a few)

Directions:

  1. Combine lemonade and iced tea in a tall glass or pitcher.
  2. Add ice, stir until chilled, and serve.

Cranberry Lime Spritzer

A year-round blend of citrus, cranberry, and fizz.

Ingredients:

This recipe makes 8 8 oz. servings

  • 3 cups cranberry juice, chilled
  • 3 cups lemon-lime soda
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 4 oz. limeade concentrate, thawed but chilled
  • Fresh cranberries
  • 4-5 sliced limes
  • Ice

Utensils:

  • 1 large pitcher
  • 8 8 oz. glasses

Directions:

  1. Mix cranberry juice and limeade concentrate in the pitcher. Slowly pour in lemon-lime soda.
  2. Garnish with a few cranberries and slices of lime.
  3. Serve over ice.

Tips:

  • Use sparkling cranberry juice for a bit more fizz.

Cucumber Agua Fresca Punch

Cool and refreshing, a fruity take on cucumber-infused drinks.

Ingredients:

This recipe makes 40-45 8 oz. servings

  • 3 qts. water
  • 1 package instant lemonade powder
  • 1 12 oz. can white grape juice concentrate
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced
  • 1 small-medium cucumber, thinly sliced
  • Ice

Utensils:

  • 1 punch bowl

Directions:

  1. Stir together water, ice, lemonade powder and grape juice concentrate in the punch bowl.
  2. Float lemon and cucumber slices on top.

Tips:

  • Let cucumber and lemon slices sit in the water for a few hours prior to mixing and serving.

"Champagne" Punch

Ingredients:

This recipe makes 40 4 oz. servings

  • 2 2 liter bottles ginger ale, chilled
  • 1 46 oz. can pineapple juice, chilledk
  • 1 64 oz. bottle white grape juice, chilled
  • 1 cup assorted berries

Utensils:

  • 1 punch bowl
  • 1 circular 6-8" cake pan

Directions:

  1. Fill a circular cake pan with ginger ale. Place 1 cup berries in the cake pan, then freeze until solid.
  2. Remove cake pan from freezer and place frozen ginger ale ring in punch bowl.
  3. Pour 1 bottle ginger ale, pineapple juice, and white grape juice over the frozen ginger ale ring.
  4. Serve immediately.

Nojito

A lime-and-mint interpretation of the iconic Cuban cocktail.

Ingredients:

This recipe makes 14 8 oz. servings

  • 3 cups water, divided
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups mint leaves, chopped
  • 2 cups lime sherbet, softened
  • 1 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1 2 liter bottle club soda
  • 2 limes, sliced

Utensils:

  • 1 large pitcher
  • Small strainer
  • 1 microwave-safe container

Directions:

  1. Combine 2 cups water with sugar and heat in microwave-safe bowl for 5 minutes on high. Stir the mint into the mixture. Let stand for 5 minutes.
  2. Strain and discard the mint leaves from the mixture. Set aside.
  3. Stir lime sherbet, lime juice, and 1 cup water in a large pitcher until well-combined.
  4. Pour mint and sugar mixture into pitcher.
  5. Add club soda and stir. Serve over ice.
  6. Garnish with lime slices.

Orange Creamsicle Float

A drinkable version of the Creamsicle you used to chase ice cream trucks for.

Ingredients:

This recipe makes 2 10 oz. servings

  • 4 Mandarin oranges, sectioned, divided
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 4 scoops vanilla ice cream, divided
  • 2 12 oz. cans club soda

Utensils:

  • 1 small bowl
  • 1 paring knife
  • 2 tall 10 oz. glasses or mugs
  • 2 straws
  • 2 spoons, optional

Directions:

  1. Carefully remove the rind from the oranges and section them in a small bowl. Squeeze any remaining juice from the rind over the sectioned oranges.
  2. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Divide the oranges and vanilla mixture in half and transfer into two tall glasses or mugs.
  4. Add two scoops of ice cream to both glasses.
  5. Top off with the club soda.
  6. Stir once and serve immediately with a straw, and a spoon if desired.

Tips:

  • For more orange flavor, use orange soda instead of club soda.

Orange Spritzer

The best way to get your daily vitamin C.

Ingredients:

This recipe makes 8 8 oz. servings

  • 1 12 oz. can frozen orange concentrate, thawed
  • 1 2 liter bottle ginger ale, chilled
  • 1 orange, sliced into rounds
  • 1 4 oz. jar maraschino cherries
  • Ice

Utensils:

  • 1 large pitcher
  • 1 large spoon
  • 8 8 oz. glasses

Directions:

  1. Empty orange juice concentrate into pitcher.
  2. Slowly pour in the ginger ale.
  3. Gently stir until all of the orange juice is mixed in.
  4. Add ice and all but 4 of the orange slices.
  5. Pour the drink into 8 glasses.
  6. Cut the remaining 4 orange slices in half and garnish the glasses with half an orange slice and a cherry.

Tips:

  • Pour the ginger ale as slowly as you can to keep the carbonation.
  • Add cherry juice from the jar of maraschino cherries for more cherry flavor.
  • Don't like the combination of ginger ale and orange juice concentrate? Substitute ginger ale for sparkling water or club soda and 100% orange juice for the concentrate.

Shirley Temple

Traditional and just as sweet.

Ingredients:

This recipe makes 1 or 8 8 oz. servings

For one:

  • 1 cup lemon-lime soda or ginger ale
  • Dash of grenadine syrup
  • Maraschino cherries

For a few:

  • 1 1 liter bottle lemon-lime soda or ginger ale
  • 8 tsp. grenadine syrup, divided
  • Maraschino cherries

Utensils:

  • 1 or 8 tall 8 oz. glasses

Directions:

  1. Pour soda and grenadine over ice in a tall glass.
  2. Add as many cherries as desired.

Tips:

  • Don't have grenadine syrup on hand? Splash in some cherry juice.

Virgin Banana Piña Colada

An instant vacation for those cool summer nights.

Ingredients:

This recipe makes 4 8 oz. servings

  • 2 bananas, very ripe
  • 1 cup diced fresh pineapple, plus 4 wedges for garnish
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • Ice

Utensils:

  • Blender
  • 4 8 oz. glassesk

Directions:

  1. Puree the bananas and diced pineapple in blender until smooth.
  2. Add pineapple juice and coconut milk to the blender, then ice. Blend until smooth.
  3. Divide among 4 glasses, garnishing with pineapple wedge.
  4. Serve immediately.

Tips:

  • Add a few maraschino cherries for the traditional version of the drink.
  • Need more sweetness? Substitute coconut milk for canned coconut cream or add 1-2 tbsp. agave nectar.

Virgin Garden-Fresh Bloody Mary

The world's most complex mocktail

Ingredients:

This recipe makes 4 8 oz. servings

  • 3 large tomatoes, cut in wedges
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 2 jalapeños, stemmed and seeded
  • 2-3 tsp. horseradish
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. celery salt
  • 1/2 tsp. freshly ground pepper
  • 4 large green olives or caperberries, optional
  • 4 pickled dilly beans, optional
  • Ice

Utensils:

  • Blender
  • 1 refrigerator-safe container
  • 4 8 oz. glasses
  • Toothpicks, optional

Directions:

  1. F1. Puree tomatoes in blender until smooth. Add lemon juice, jalapeños, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, celery salt, and pepper, and pulse until mixed through.
  2. Place mixture into a refrigerator-safe container and chill for about 2 hours.
  3. To serve, divide mixture among 4 ice-filled glasses and garnish with olives, or caperberries, and dilly beans on toothpicks, if desired

Tips:

  • Get creative with your garnishes. Add carrots, celery stalks, or dill pickle spears.
  • Want more heat? Add 1 tsp. Tabasco sauce, or other hot sauce, to the mix.

Watermelon Agua Fresca

Subtly sweet, from the bodegas of Central America.

Ingredients:

This recipe makes 8-10 8 oz. servings

  • 8 cups cubed seeded watermelon, divided
  • 1 cup water, divided
  • 1/2 cup sugar, divided
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1 liter bottle club soda, chilled
  • 2-3 limes, sliced

Utensils:

  • Blender
  • Coarse strainer
  • 1 large refrigerator-safe container
  • 8-10 8oz. glasses

Directions:

  1. Combine 4 cups watermelon, 1/2 cup water, 1/4 cup sugar in blender, pureeing until smooth.
  2. Pour through a coarse strainer into a large container.
  3. Repeat with remaining watermelon, water, and sugar.
  4. Stir in lime juice.
  5. Refrigerate for about 4 hours or until chilled.
  6. To serve, stir in club soda and garnish with lime.

Tips:

  • You can make this drink up to 2 days ahead of time. Just puree all the watermelon, sugar, and water and keep refrigerated in the container.
  • Experiment with other fruits if watermelon isn't your favorite: Mango, strawberries, cantaloupe or honeydew are all good options.
