1. Road Entering Curve

What It Looks Like: Be prepared for an upcoming left-hand turn—and a random black mark also somehow ended up on the sign.

What It Actually Means: This is a Road Entering Curve Sign. The PA Driver's Manual states this sign signifies "the main road curves to the left with a side road entering from the right. Drivers should approach the intersection with extra caution. A driver preparing to enter the main road may not be able to see you approaching from around the curve and may pull out in front of you, leaving you little room to avoid a crash, if you are traveling too fast."

2. Center Lane Left Turn Only

What It Looks Like: Drivers are permitted to play "chicken" (the dangerous game of driving directly towards one and other), as long as they remain in the center lane.

What It Actually Means: This is the Center Lane Left Turn Only Sign. According to the PA Driver's Manual, "This sign indicates where a lane is reserved for the exclusive use of left-turning vehicles in either direction and is not to be used for through traffic or passing."

3. Weave Area

What It Looks Like: This road is unsure of which direction it's going.

What It Actually Means: This is a Weave Area sign. According to the PA Driver's Manual, "this sign is used to warn that you will be merging with another roadway as some traffic is exiting and crossing your path."

4. Circular Intersection

What It Looks Like: An alternative version of the "Recycle" Symbol

What It Actually Means: This is a Circular Intersection Sign. The PA Driver's Manual maintains that this sign shows you in advance that the road you are traveling on does not continue straight through the intersection. It indicates that the traffic in the upcoming intersection flows in a circular direction. Drivers should prepare to slow down, if necessary.

5. Added Lane

What It Looks Like: A neat-looking pattern

What It Actually Means: This is an Added Lane sign. According to the PA Driver's Manual, "This sign is placed in advance of a point where two roadways meet. It means merging is not necessary because the entering traffic uses a new lane that has been added to the roadway."

6. Divided Highway Ends
